Frustrating day. Forecast wasn´t good, calling for the wind to be swinging round from poniente to levante and not filling in until late evening. Had a look on the beach around midday and not a breath. So instead decided to have a look around Gibraltar. A very surreal place....well worth visiting, UK in the sunshine, and views from the Rock are stunning.

Was up on the Rock playing with the monkeys, when around 3.30pm noticed it was getting windy. Arse! Pegged it back to the border and got the bus back to Tarifa. Didn´t get back until 5.30pm. Knowing that Spin Out shut at 6.30pm, pulled on my wettie in double quick time and shifted it to the beach. Was hoping that they would be keeping the centre open until later since the wind didn´t fill in until late. Forgot that it is run by anal Swissies.....

"Nein, we are closing at 6.30, the last person goes surfing at 5.30, thank you good-night." B*st*rds.

After mucho begging persuaded them to allow me a quick 30 mins on the water. Was thinking 4.5 would be about right, but... "So, it is gusty, you take a 5.3 and you will be well-powered"....

Was in too much of a rush to argue, so a mucho under-downhauled 5.3 was pulled out. I tried putting some more on but the tack pulley system was stuck solid with sand. So out I went, and straight away collosally over-powered. Even waterstarting was difficult without getting flung straight over the front as soon as I was up. Anyway, grit my teeth and made the best of it. Wind was slightly offshore, mucho gusty on the inside, then more constant but bonkers mental further out. Since I was overpowered I stuck to making short runs on the inside. Was strange looking for lulls to gybe in, not gusts - normally it´s the other way round. After a few minutes of warming up was not too bad in the end, ridiculously overpowered in the gusts, but again the board is a cracker, and gybes were going well.

Made sure I came in before 6.30..... So just a quick half-an-hour, disappointing since apparently it had been blowing for most of the afternoon, but Gibraltar was well worth a look around.

Full force levante forecast for tomorrow - hmmm where´s that 3.0....?
